EAA members have a wide variety of interests:  Amateur built experimental aircraft ranging from simple plans-built aircraft to high-tech kit airplanes, General Aviation aircraft, Warbirds, UltraLight aircraft and Antique and Classic aircraft.  EAA also sponsors NAFI, the National Association of Flight Instructors.

Upcoming  LOCAL Aviation Events!

Chapter Technical Counselors help aircraft builders with technical and safety advice.  Chapter Flight Advisors help pilots prepare for first flights of homebuilt aircraft.  One of the chapter assets is the varied skills and great cooperation of the members. Those with expertise in one area help other members, knowing that when they need help in another area there will be a member available with the necessary expertise. General Aviation User Fees

In 1999, members completed and flew a Gypsy Ultralight.  Chapter members are now designing and building our own Ultralight — The Independence Flyer — which will be powered by a half-VW engine.

Chapter members will soon join in helping build one of the first RV-12 kits.  One of our members is rebuilding an early Travelair in the main hangar, after already completing a beautiful flying example.  Our membership is comprised of a perfect mix of ultralight flyers, "RV Builders", antique and classic enthusiasts, and even some "Fast Glass" types.

In 2008, Chapter 292 will not only host Van's "Homecoming" again, we will also have a Biplane Fly-In.  No matter what kind of aviation interests you...Chapter 292 is the place to be.

Chapter 292's facilities are among the top EAA Chapter facilities in the nation, with a full complement of tools and equipment owned by the chapter and available for use by our members.  From woodworking equipment to specialized sheet- metal tools and equipment to tube/fabric and fiberglass equipment, Chapter 292 has what you need for your project and we can show you how to use it.  We even have a full set of equipment to do annuals or condition inspections on aircraft.

Our journey to 501 (c) 3 status

The Chapter 292 hangar was built by the members and completed in 1998.  It was paid off completely in 2005.  The main building consists of a 40 by 70 foot meeting room / work area, kitchen, utility room, (soon to be remodeled into a home for our new PC Flight Training Device), restrooms, and two 40 by 40 foot hangars.

A project unique in all the world is the Noon Patrol — a group of Chapter members who have, from scratch, built fourteen identical replica World War I fighters in the Chapter hangar. These stalwart members began toiling in October 1999; the first one flew in January, 2003.

Chapter 292 members regularly participate in EAA Young Eagles — a national program that met its initial goal to give one million free introductory flights to youth in a ten year period.  Our Young Eagles are always flown one at a time so that each one has the full attention of the pilot to improve the quality of their experience.
Young Eagles
Each month over a thousand local EAA Chapters around the world get together to enjoy the camaraderie of a group of people that share their enthusiasm for aviation. The only requirement to join is an interest in aviation.
