Chapter Hangar
In 1987 our chapter realized its vision of having a permanent home: our first chapter hangar was finished and became operational. This facility was the culmination of a twenty year journey by the chapter.
Only ten years later the chapter had out grown this facility and the board voted to contruct a larger one. The new hangar was completed in 1998 and features two hangars, a large meeting/workspace for chapter activities, a kitchen, and restroom facilities. The purpose of our hangar is to have a place where chapter events can be held, a facility where our members can build their aircraft, and a place where members can gather around various other aviation-related activities.
Today our hangar is used to support all these goals and the following activities:
- EAA Membership Meetings – Second Saturday of the month at 10:00 A.M.
- EAA Board Meetings – Second Friday of the month at 7:00 P.M.
- Coffee Klatch – Weekdays 8:30 – 9:30 A.M.
- Indy Flyer Project – Tuesdays noonish
- Pinochle – Wednesdays 7:00 P.M.
- Oregon Pilots Association meeting/dinner – Second Thursday of the month 6:00 P.M.
Other activities are coordinated thru the Hangar Manager using the event Calendar. Please review the Hangar Use Policy prior to requesting use of the facility.
The chapter hangar is located at 4803 Airport Road, on the east side of Independence State Airport (aerial pic with callouts here).
Hangar features:
- Fully finished interior: insulated, sheetrocked, and painted.
- Plenty of electrical service with multiple outlets on all walls.
- Bright flourescent lighting in each unit.
- Dedicated forced heating sytems for each unit complete with thermostat.
- 60 gallon air compressor system with outlets plumbed in-wall to the north, south, and main hangar.
- Tools such as a drill press, metal shear, metal break, table saw, lathe, media blaster and band saw. Additional tools are available from the Toolcrib.
The south hangar is for projects and has been well equiped with a variety of tools for member use. The North hangar is intended for members who need a rental hangar for aircraft projects or storage. There may be from one to three tenants at a time depending on the stage of their projects. The Hangar Manager will coordinate the tenants, space allocation, and rent.

The main hangar project space is intended for these purposes...
- Chapter meetings and events
- Board approved projects such as the Travel Air
- Members who wish to do final aircraft assembly and avail themselves of the Chapter's tools and a great heated facility before moving into their own hangar somewhere else. Typically this would be a 1-3 month period.
