Our RC-1 Simulator!

 RC-1
Early in 2008 our chapter purchased a Elite RC-1 PC based instrument flight simulator. This is an FAA approved Advanced Aviation Training Device with life-size, high-resolution instruments, cockpit enclosure, instructor station, and external visual system with large-screen display. It's three trainers in one with included simple, complex, and twin-engine aircraft capability. Users can connect a Garmin 296, 396, or 496 handheld GPS for extended training possibilities.

The simulator was purchased to allow pilots the opportunity for a low cost training opportunity, in addition to conventional flight instruction.  Our simulator gives you the opportunity to work on VFR flight proceedures, flight in IMC, and emergencies at a fraction of the cost of using a real aircraft.  Pilot ViewInstrument pilots can use the simulator to maintain their currency, practice flights in unfamiliar aircraft and airspace, all at a fraction of the cost of live flight.

Pilots and instructors only need to join the chapter to gain access to the system.  Once your checked out on the system, access is scheduled thru Aircraftclubs.com (a web based scheduling system).  Time on the simulator is sold in 10 hour blocks, at $15 per hour.   Thanks to Chuck West for bringing this proposal to the chapter, and to the SIM Committee members who worked hard developing the plan for our purchase and operation of the system.  Another big thanks goes out to all the Gold and Silver Sponsors, who contributed the funds that made this purchase a reality.
