The Wings Over Willamette STOL contest needs pilot and line judge volunteers.
To volunteer please visit the Volunteer page.
On the day of the contest (Sunday, August 17)
The STOL contest will take place on the morning of Sunday, August 17. We need at least five (5) line judges to measure takeoff and landing distances. Your help will be needed from 8 AM (mandatory safety briefing) until around noon (to clear the runway).
Practice sessions
Before the contest the line judges need to practice how to set up the measuring devices, do the measurements, and safely work near the runway during the contest.
We will be organizing four practice sessions. All of these appear on the EAA 292 Calendar as “STOL Ground Practice”:
· Thursday, June 19, 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM
· Wednesday, July 9, 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM
· Wednesday, July 16, 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM
· Thursday, August 7, 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM
Line judge volunteers will need to attend at least one, and preferably two, practice sessions to learn the job.
We also need at least three pilots to volunteer for each practice session. While we would prefer STOL pilots (so they get a chance to practice also) we could use just about any light aircraft. For those that can’t take-off and land in under 400’, we may ask that you adjust your starting point (for takeoff) and touchdown point (for landing) so that you leave the ground and stop within the measurement area.
Contact us if you have any questions.
