Project Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Below you will find answers to some of the common questions that have come up during the course of this project that cover a wide range of topics. The FAQ section covers these answers in a short summary. Questions with answers that require a longer answer may have a dedicated page to discuss that topic. General Questions


Do we need a Hangar Expansion?

The general consensus (per 2020 survey results) has been that members would like to see the expansion happen due to growing membership and the desire to improve and expand the clubhouse. Additionally, our existing events and activities such as Young Eagles and the Fly-In/STOL exceed our available space.

How are decisions being made?
The primary work being done by the Hangar/Building Expansion Committee is being guided by membership feedback and data . The goal is to proceed with transparency to the membership and make decisions based on a shared common vision.


Didn't we start this project in 2019, what happened?

The project was put on hold due to COVID. We are reviving this project from where things were left off.



Finances


How much will it cost?

The Building Expansion Committee has a working budget based on a phased approach to this project. The different budget options as well as the detailed estimate is posted to the Finance section of this site.


How will the expansion be paid for?

Funds have already been donated, restricted to the use of building expansion (this includes the Lancair project). The chapter also has additional funds from prior build projects that can be utilized for funding the expansion. These funds are expected to cover the majority of costs associated with the new structure. Additional build-out of the interior spaces will require more funding and we are planning those as future phases of this project.


Will my annual dues go up as a result?

The annual dues go towards the daily upkeep and usage of the club. The expectation is that the chapter will be able to generate additional revenue from the improvements to cover operating costs. 


What if it costs more than the estimated cost?

There are a number of options available for covering additional expenses. We have looked into this but do not need to explore this in more detail yet. The estimated budget is based on a high-side estimate for the first phase of the project.


Design


Why is the proposed building shaped like this and were other design options considered?

The footprint of the building maximizes the space within code limits. Further information on the design is covered in Design section of the website with different options that have been considered.


What benefit do I get?

What features will the proposed design have?

We are considering a number of different use cases which are discussed on the Design section of the site. If you have ideas or suggestions, please provide us your comments via the feedback form.




Construction & Scheduling


When is the construction expected to begin?

Before we can start construction we need to get approvals and permitting. Therefore we will not be able to start any sooner than this summer at the earliest. We would like to start as soon as possible to lock in prices as waiting has only proven to be more costly.


How long will it take?

The new building erection is expected to be completed within 6-9 months from start of build until the space is usable. This does not include the other future phases including remodeling of existing spaces.


Will construction affect day-to-day operations? Can we still have a Fly-In and STOL?

The goal will be to schedule construction in a way to minimize impact on our day-to-day operations. While there are some steps that will require work on the existing structure, we do not expect those to interfere with any of our major gatherings or events. We are still planning to have our Fly-in & STOL competition this year.
